Our Chunk-a Chunk-a Burning LOVE

Check this kid out! What a chunk!
So let there be no question, this boy is healthy and strong.
He eats so well and it's been so fun to see him grow!
He's bigger than we remember Thatcher ever being, but hey- no complaining here! That just means there's more to love!
And I'm proud to announce that Levi has already started to make us laugh. I can only imagine this is the start of something good. So you know he's a baby, he's still trying to figure out how to get himself all under control, right? That means every once in a while he kind of has spastic movements or funny twitches, but the other night I had to wonder... Evan and I were sitting in bed just talking while I burped Levi on my lap. I asked Evan if he felt like he was spending enough time with Levi, now that he's not working from home (Oh! Newsflash! Evan has a new job! Guess we'll have to blog about that later...). Evan said he was feeling pretty good with as much as he's been seeing Levi, but that he could always use more time with his little boys when suddenly, right on cue, Levi started shaking his head over and over with a panicked look on his face as if to say "No!! No no no no no no no, please! No more time with Daddy!!" We had a good laugh.
We are really loving our little man. He has been smiling and "coo"-ing lots for us lately and oh! The love! It's so much fun! He's also starting to reach out and bat at things hanging in his reach. He loves bathtime and that is his most active time of day for sure, he loves to kick and splash! He is holding his head up like a pro and sleeping as good as ever. We are now getting 6-8 hours at night, it's wonderful! When he sleeps 6 hours I go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours which is nice for the extra sleep, and when he sleeps 8 hours I get up for the day which is nice for the extra time in the morning! Pretty dang awesome.
Life with Levi is good!

So lucky.

Can I just tell you how lucky I am? Really, I am lucky in millions of ways that to list them would take up the entire internet, but today I want to talk about one reason (actually two reasons) I'm a very lucky girl.

Reason number 1: I have a sweet Aunt Kathy.
Reason number 2: I have a sweet cousin, Shauna.

Now. I have lots of sweet Aunts and even more sweet cousins (gotta love being from a large family- both my parents come from families of 9 kids!), and I love them ALL so dearly, so I hope it won't hurt anyone's feelings if I just focus on these two. I feel so lucky to have these two special women in my life! They are shining examples of what wonderful mothers should be. They are both hard working and amaze me with how they handle life's challenges with such strength and grace. They have also gone above and beyond and have done everything in their power to make me and my family feel so loved and so thought of and so not forgotten way down here in Georgia.

Life story time: I was born in Alberta, Canada, where both of my parents' families were born, raised, and where the vast majority of them still lived. I grew up very close to all my extended family and LOVED it. When I was 12 we moved to Georgia. While this move has proven to be in the very best interest for me and for my family, it has never been easy being so far from our family and loved ones up in Canada. It's been hard to keep in touch with so much family and let's face it, life moves on and life is busy and sometimes it's hard to reach out over the thousands of miles between us and connect with one another and rekindle the close family ties. I know that as well as anyone, as I have not always done my best in that aspect.

But these women? Kathy and Shauna? They have done their best to make sure we still feel a part of the family. They call. Often. They chat. They email. Often. They blog and they follow my blog, because they know that's important to me (okay that's not the ONLY reason, but still). They are genuinely interested in being a part of our lives! They send packages, they come to visit whenever possible, and save their pennies and make plans for future visits.

This past week, I was lucky enough to receive 2 lovely packages! That's right, 2!! One was a Maple Leaf onesie for Little Levi, and a beautiful Maple Leaf Christmas ornament. The same one they tried to send last year but was delivered it in about 10,000 pieces. It is my absolute favorite and it looks fantastic on our tree!
The next package came a few days later and contained 2 huge bags of Smarties- the real ones, remember? The ones with a super crispy candy coating and real, delicious Canadian chocolate in the middle? Yah, those are the ones. YUM. But the real treasure in this package was a beautiful quilt that they both made for Baby Levi.
The pictures can almost show how beautiful the quilt is, but they could never capture how fine the flannel feels against your cheek or how it warms you right down to your soul.

They could never show the love that emanates from this blanket as if it were literally stitched in with every stitch.I don't think I can adequately put into words how special these two wonderful members of my family make me feel! Or how grateful I am for their kindness and selflessness and their wanting to be a part of not only my life, but my sons lives and my husbands life. They spoil us all rotten!
Thank you Shauna and Auntie Kappie! Thank you so so much. As you can see, we are loving our new blanket (Levi sleeps wrapped up in it every night).
(And Levi's not the only one who loves it... or maybe it was the chocolate)
We love you and are so lucky to be a part of your family.

I ate Lucie. {a Thatcher post}

It's true. And she was good.

See today at lunch I was happily playing with my baby carrots because I was determined not to eat them. First they were rockets, flying around and taking off at will around the kitchen. Then they were Mama, Daddy and Baby Levi carrots. But something was missing... where was the Lucie carrot?? No more carrots. Hm. Well good old Dad, he pointed out that I had a small piece of my Peanut-butter sandwich left that might do the trick! It was perfect! It was funny looking and fluffy- just like Lucie. The Lucie sandwich went around licking the whole carrot family over and over and the Mama carrot just held the Baby Levi carrot. It was as close to real life action as it gets, folks.

It wasn't long before I realized that I accidentally ate Lucie. "Oh no!" I exclaimed, "Where's Lucie?!" My parents launched an all out investigation but my guilt was just eating at me. I admitted my deed and told my parents she was now in my tummy. GASP!

Now Mama, she's a quick thinker and she didn't waste any time worrying. Instead she poked my tummy, located our now digesting puppy, talked Lucie through what had just happened and said she'd look for help. In the mean time, she suggested I ate a carrot to send down to her. Lucie likes carrots, great idea Mom! So I gobbled up a carrot and had Mama shout down my throat to her to see if she liked it. Out came her response, "Yes". "Well then quick! Eat another one! Eat two! We don't want her to get hungry down there!" My mama. She's just the caring mother type, ya know? And it didn't stop there, we made sure she had plenty to drink and then when all our lunch was gone I thought I heard Lucie say she wanted some Stickerz snacks. So we gave some to her.

We are still trying to figure out how to get her out of there, but as you can see we are taking extra care to make sure that her stay in my tummy is as comfortable as possible. For Lucie's sake, I'll do anything my parents need me to do. I'm happy if my puppy's happy! (She's taking a nap right now!) But really Mom, how long is it going to take you to just find someone to help her out? It's almost like you want... her... in... hey wait a second...

a u t u m n

We are getting ready to say goodbye to Autumn here at the Mullins house. It has really been a beautiful Fall this year! All the rain we've had has made for some beautiful Fall colors but we were also blessed with enough dry days to enjoy the beauty in the cool, crisp air.

Holiday Cheer

Now that Thanksgiving's over, I thought I'd share a few Thatcher gems to get you into the Christmas spirit!

The other day we thought we'd toss the idea of Santa Claus out there and see how Thatcher did. We think he took to it pretty well! It went a little something like this:

Krista: "Thatcher, guess what? Christmas is coming up and that means that Santa Claus is going to come to Thatcher's house and bring us some presents!"

Thatcher: "Yeh."

Krista: "Does that sound like fun buddy?"

Thatcher: "Yeh."

Krista: "... well... what do you think you want Santa Claus to bring you?"

Thatcher: {Pauses} "Daow want BIG present."

Krista: {laughing} "Oh yah?"

Thatcher: "Yeh! Daow want... BROWNIES in present!"

So Santa, please send a big box of brownies. He's been good all year.

And another "other day" while watching Dora, I turned on a Christmas episode. Now, this was a new one to Thatcher. The episode began with Dora and Boots sitting in front of the Christmas tree, ready to exchange presents. Dora asks, "Do YOU like presents?" Now normally when we watch Dora and she asks questions, Thatcher stares blankly back at her, but this time? THIS time Thatcher shouts, "YES!! I LOOOVE PRESENTS!!!" He cracks me up!

One Silly Dude.

Thatcher has been through a lot lately. It hasn't been the easiest thing, adjusting to our newest addition-- don't get me wrong, they love each other! Thatcher loves his brother more than anything in the world, I'm serious, and it's obvious that Levi is already crazy about his big brother! Yet at the same time we've noticed Thatcher struggling- struggling to deal with a crying baby, struggling to exert that crazy, pent up energy in more positive ways, struggling to find better ways of getting our attention, struggling to deal with a Mama who just isn't as available and fun as I may have been the rest of his life! Anyways, that's not the point here; the point is even with all the craziness in life right now, Thatcher (or "Daow" as he calls himself) continues to keep us laughing! His imagination has really taken off lately and let me tell you, I am a HUGE fan! Oh! I love it! I had such a wild imagination when I was a kid and I am still able to come up with some pretty crazy ideas, so it is incredibly fun watching Thatcher as he develops his own imagination! For example: Thatcher one day suddenly turned to us and told us there was "somefin' in my ear". I checked his ears really quick and after finding nothing I asked him what was in his ear? He told me a bird was in his ear. Realizing what was going on (it is, after all, a part of one of his favorite books- One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr Seuss), I took another look, pulled a bird out of his ear and threw it out the window! He thought this was a pretty great game so he kept it up! Soon he was running after the birds we threw out the window (apparently we were actually throwing them at the window), picking them up off the window sill and sitting them on his outstretched arm like he saw a couple of parrots do at Chick-fil-a one day! Then the birds were different colors, and now he asks us to pet and hug the birds he picks out of his ears, throws at the windows and then rescues. "Oh, so cute!"
Another example of Thatcher's imagination came up a couple weeks ago at the dinner table. If I remember correctly, Evan and I overheard Thatcher talking to himself during a conversation we were having and noticed he was talking about an airplane. When we asked him about it he said, "look! hairplane!" and pointed at the ceiling. When I told him I couldn't see it he said, "dis house is hairplane!" We played along for a bit and then he proceeded to tell us that in this hairplane house, a puppy lived in the vents and gave him new toys (we had not even touched on Santa Claus by this time). A new ball, among other new toys. We asked him if it was a nice puppy and he answered, "SO nice." I'm still waiting for the puppy to bring ME a present. A camera DOES qualify as a new toy, right? How about ice cream? Or we can keep this quick and simple puppy, just leave cash. (Our house has since been an elephant and a cave with bats.)
Thatcher has gotten back into counting everything. He counts his fingers, he counts our fingers, he counts lights, he counts cars, he counts absolutely everything! One day at lunch Thatcher was counting to 10 over and over again. Then he looks at me and says, "Mama count wifth us! One, two..." and we counted to 10. Then he got out of his chair and wanted to count the rails on the back of his chair. "Mama, count wifth us! One, two..." I thought that was cute and was just deciding that he must have picked that up from Dora or something when he said, "Now in Spanish! Uno, dos, tres..."! What a nut!
A bit ago I was tucking Thatcher in bed for his afternoon nap when I noticed his socks were missing! "Thatcher," I asked him, "what happened to your socks!? You have bare feet!" The biggest smile jumped onto his face and he chuckled and told me, "No have bear feet! Just have Thatcher feet!"
We've enjoyed laying down with Thatcher for a few minutes at bedtimes lately. It's a fun, relaxing way to spend a little one-on-one time with him and it usually guarantees a few snuggles, along with stories like the following... I was laying down with Thatcher when I started feeling sleepy myself, so I told him it was time for me to go so I could go to sleep in my own bed. He shot up and sternly told me, "No! Mama need go sleep NOW... in big boy bed!"
Other nights, he asks us to sing songs for him. Daddy started this new bedtime favorite in an effort to introduce Christmas songs to Thatcher. Evan came out after the first night of trying this and we laughed so hard as he told me that after singing a few songs he just laid there silently while Thatcher whispered, "Jingle Bells. Jingle Bells. Jingle all way. HEY! (while doing a little bursting action with his hands)" So anyways, one night out of the blue Thatcher wanted me to sing instead. The first night we sang a couple Christmas songs and had a nice time. The next night I asked what he wanted me to sing. "Ummmmm..." A Christmas song? "No Christmas song. Halloween song!" His new favorite song in the whole world... the Halloween song. Are you familiar with Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas?" It's one of my favorite holiday movies ever, and I'm happy to say that Thatcher shares my obsession with it. It just means that I'll probably be singing the "Halloween song" (This is Halloween) 6 times a night, every night, and listening to the song on repeat in the car every time we go anywhere (even 3 hour long road trips)... for the rest of my life. And in case you wanted my personal opinion, I think The Nightmare Before Christmas would make a killer Broadway show! Just my opinion.
And like I said, I am so proud of Thatcher for being such a sweet big brother to little Levi! Every day I get a play-by-play of Levi's every movement and noise. "Mama! Mama! Levi movin his hand!" "Mama! Mama! Levi squeakin'! Squeak, squeak, squeak!" "Mama! His eyes open!" "Mama! He SO CUTE!" We're sure having a lot of fun with our newest addition, but nothing is ever going to change how much we love our T-Man and how much fun we have with him!
Thanks for the good times bud!

Celebrity Sightings

Well, sort of. Okay so I have celebrity sightings in my dreams. Last night I dreamed that I was at my local Kroger gas station filling up when Steve Carell pulled up behind me. In a mini van. He was obviously impatient so I just stared off in the opposite direction while I waited for my tank to fill. When I heard the gas 'click' off, I turned around to finish up and Steve Carell walked up, ripped my receipt from the pump, shoved it in my hand, sharply removed the nozzle from my car and returned it to the pump, mumbling something about "okay okay, here's your receipt, let me put this back for you and there you are!" I just started laughing like it was some funny skit on The Office and as I'm laughing I told him, "I'm SO happy you just did that- thanks for my receipt!" Then he turned and looked over my shoulder at the camera and made this would-be-confused-face-if-he-could-only-keep-from-smiling like does on the show. Then he jumped back into his mini van and I got in my CRV and drove off. I woke up so happy. I love funny dreams! (And I realize as I write this down and am about to publish it, that it's really not as funny as it seemed at 4:30 this morning, but... enjoy it anyways.)
